VOLUNTEERING

Our committed team of volunteers provides a great deal of support in the smooth running of the charity. We currently have around 20 people helping out, mainly with operation of our services. If you are interested in getting involved, please contact our Volunteer Co-ordinator at volunteering@stevenagehaven.org.uk

If you are interested in volunteering for us, you will need to complete an application form. You can pick one up from either of our hostels or download here. Guidance notes for completing the form can be downloaded here.

Opportunities for volunteering include:

Kitchen Staff

There is always a need for volunteers to help out preparing lunches and evening meals at the two hostels. They are provided with the training needed to gain hygiene certification.

Befriending

Our clients are provided with their general and specific support needs by their Housing Support Worker. However, many will benefit greatly from more informal social interaction with members of the public; a friendly face who will come for a chat and give them encouragement.

Mentors

As part of our goal to get clients into education / training and prepare them for employment, we are seeking to build a team of mentors. They would engage with clients on a one-to-one basis and help them think about their future development and give them motivation to take positive actions.

Daytime activities

We are always looking to extend our provision of activities for clients. Please do get in touch if you have specialist skills which you think may be beneficial. Of particular interest are volunteers who can get involved in supporting sport and leisure, art and craft, music, alternative therapies. We would also like to hear from people with tutoring experience.

Trustees

Our Trustees give their time on a voluntary basis. If you are interested in becoming a Trustee for the charity, please make contact with our Director at barbara.howard@stevenagehaven.org.uk.

Working with other agencies, we provide emergency accommodation and support services to homeless single people in Hertfordshire.
Our hostels provide a lifeline to single people experiencing homelessness who are over 18 but do not fall within the statutory duty of care of local authorities.
