FUNDRAISING AND DONATIONS

Historically, our funding has been almost entirely from government initiatives (statutory) and income associated with clients' housing benefit which we receive via the local authority. As statutory funding continues to be reduced, we must look to develop new ways of generating income to maintain, and seek to further extend, the vital service we provide to the local community.

Financial donations

One-off or regular donations can be made using the Virgin Money Giving or the Paypal links below. Giving £40 will enable us to provide a client with a start up pack containing all the essentials they need when moving into their own property.

You can also contribute by using a Virgin charity credit card in which case we get £1 for every £100 spent if gift-aided (must be UK taxpayer). You can get your card on-line. The card will also give you discounts across the Virgin group and beyond. For further information, contact Virgin on 0800 015 0306.

We have teamed up with internet shopping site easyfundraising.org.uk, where you can earn a donation to Stevenage Haven of up to 15% of the cost of your purchases, at no extra cost to you. With over 2700 participating retailers to choose from, simply register online to start fundraising while you shop.

You  can even raise money for us every time you search the internet. For more details, go to the easysearch website.

Finally you can support charities, including Stevenage Haven, through the Give-a-car scheme.

Community fundraising

We currently receive generous donations from local schools, churches and social clubs and appeals to the public. This is an income source we need to extend.

There are lots of exciting ways you can get involved in raising money whether it be competing in a marathon, organising a school event or maybe, for the more adventurous, a sponsored skydive!

We are part of the annual Sleepout event at the Abbey in St Albans which has been going for 22 years. You can raise money and also get an insight into the hardships rough sleepers have to go through every night. In 2013, over 400 people took part raising an incredible £41,000.

If you have an idea for a fundraising event or are planning to do something yourself, please contact fundraising@stevenagehaven.org.uk.

Corporate fundraising

Supporting charities is a great way for businesses to enhance their local profile and meet their corporate social responsibility. It has also been shown to have a positive effect on staff wellbeing. There are a number of ways you can help.

Payroll giving - staff donate directly from their gross pay therefore reducing the amount of tax and NI paid. For more information, contact the Charities Trust.

Sponsorship - this provides a way in which businesses can get their name out into the local community and help us at the same time. It could be sponsoring a particular project, event or publication.

Volunteering - we are always looking for volunteers especially those with relevant training skills or keen to become mentors for our clients. There are, from time-to-time, opportunities to get your staff involved in a team challenge. It might be decorating one of our move-on properties or helping with a landscaping project.

Other donations

We greatly appreciate donations of tinned food and non-perishable items and toiletries. Other useful items, provided in reasonable condition, include electrical goods and appliances, books, clothes, towels and bedding. If necessary we may be able arrange to collect bulky items. Please contact us first on 01438 354884 to ensure we are able to accept your donation

We can provide businesses information on tax-efficient giving. Before getting rid of items which could re-used such as IT equipment, storage equipment or desks please do get in touch.

Working with other agencies, we provide emergency accommodation and support services to homeless single people in Hertfordshire.
Our hostels provide a lifeline to single people experiencing homelessness who are over 18 but do not fall within the statutory duty of care of local authorities.
